Vinay Forrt-starrer Family has been recognised with an award at the Stockholm Independent Film Festival. The film took home the Best Feature Film prize. Family's makers expressed their excitement about this on a number of social media platforms. They disclosed that the film was shown under the category of "Sinister Dualities."
“Excited to share that ‘Family’ won Best Feature Film at the Stockholm Independent Film Festival, which showcases the best of cinema across diverse genres and styles,” they wrote on Instagram.
In the psychological drama Family, a small town is submerged in a false conventionality until an acclaimed mentor reveals his evil nature, sparking a conflict between tradition and family values.
Family is written, directed, and edited by Don Palathara, with co-writing credit going to Sherin Catherine. Divya Prabha, Mathew Thomas, Nilja K Baby, Abhija Sivakala, Jain Andrews, Jolly Chirayath, Sajitha Madathil, Jitin Puthanchery, and Kumar Sethu are among the prominent performers in the movie.
The audience overwhelmingly applauded Malayalam filmmaker Don Palathara's Family for providing a stark reflection of reality- how innocent and trusting parents place their children in the hands of abusers, and how the "family" system silences even those who try to speak out. The film also does a good job of showing how predators can easily flourish among us because of our collective silence, which is frequently enforced by religion.
In January 2023, the movie made its debut at the 52nd International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). The 14th Bengaluru International Film Festival also featured a screening of Family. Additionally, it has been chosen as one of the five finalists for the Young Jury Prize at the 68th Cork International Film Festival, an esteemed event held in Ireland.
Family was also selected as one of the two Malayalam films to screen in the 28th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), which takes place in December 2023. The film was among the Top 10 Indian films at the FIPRESCI India Grand Prix 2023.
