Within a month of being released on ZEE5, Vilangu has made history on the platform. The series has become the most-watched Tamil original series on ZEE5.

Vilangu, which consists of seven episodes, was released on ZEE5 on February 18. The series revolves around the story of a sub-inspector named Paridhi who is tasked with uncovering a murder, while also having to deal with the problems in his personal life, including complaints of his pregnant wife, Revathi. The investigation he is tasked with becomes more complicated when more killings start to take place.

Vimal and Ineya essay the role of the male and female leads, Paridhi and Revathi, respectively in the series. The series also features Bala Saravanan, Munishkanth and R. N. R. Manohar in pivotal roles. Prasanth Pandiyaraj, popular for helming the 2017 film Bruce Lee, has directed the series.

The series opened to positive reviews, with critics praising the cast’s performances and writing. The review for the series on OTTplay reads, “The convincing performances of Vimal, Balasaravanan, RNR Manohar and Munishkanth complement the writing till the end, which helps viewers sympathise with their challenges and emotions.”

Popular Kollywood stars such as Harish Kalyan and Sivakarthikeyan also showed their appreciation for the series on social media. While the former called it a ‘top class investigative thriller’ that keeps one ‘hooked’, the latter talked about how good the performances and writing are.

Director Pandiraj also referred to it as ‘well made’ and ‘engaging’, while C. V. Kumar called it one of the best Tamil shows he has seen in recent times.
