It won't be wrong to say that Tamil star Vikram's upcoming movie Thangalaan is one of the most-awaited movies of 2024. However, the film's release has been facing a lot of obstacles due to various reasons. Recently, speculations were rife about the producers' plan to release it in cinemas in April. However, it will not happen.
Producer Dhanajayan, who is also the CEO of Studio Green, confirmed the further delay in the release of Thangalaan. He revealed that initially, they had plans to release it in April as they were not aware of the election dates at the time.
The impending Parliament elections are set to span seven phases, which is touted to be the second-longest polling event in the country's history. The elections will continue until the end of May, making the situation very unfavourable for its release in cinemas.

The release in April will also not align with the producers' ambition to give it a wide release across the country due to elections. "You can release a medium-budget movie within the range of Rs 20-30 crore. How can we take a risk on a movie made on a Rs 100 crore budget? Producer K. E. Gnanavel Raja is planning a big release in Hindi too. So the date has not been finalized yet. But, Thangalaan is ready (for release)," Dhanajayan told Cinema Vikatan.
Last year, the producers announced that Thangalaan would hit the screens worldwide on January 26, 2024. They also kicked off promotions with a teaser launch, following the cast and crew interactions with the press. However, the film's post-production hit a snag, forcing the producers to delay its release. And the looming elections have added to its delay.
Dhanajayan, however, promised that "Thangalaan will be an iconic movie. It will be the best film in Vikram's career and also take Pa.Ranjith to the next level."
