Just days ago, it was reported that the upcoming Hindi remake of Vikram Vedha would be one of Hrithik Roshan’s most expensive films to date. The reason stated was that the star had reportedly refused to film on locations in Uttar Pradesh, and had asked for sets to be constructed in Dubai instead. Recently, the makers of the film have responded to the rumours and set the record straight.
Reliance Entertainment, who are bankrolling the film, issued a statement speaking of how the reports had come to the notice of the makers. Calling them ‘misleading’ and ‘totally unsubstantiated’, the company revealed that the film had been shot ‘extensively in India’, including Lucknow. A part of the film had been shot in UAE as it was the only location which had a bio-bubble to accommodate the crew and build the sets needed. The makers clarified that the UAE location was chosen only for health protocol reasons. Criticising attempts to ‘twist the facts’, the makers added that decisions regarding production and budget were a ‘centralised prerogative’.

Many reports had stated that Roshan’s refusal to shoot in UP had led the film’s budget to be increased by almost double, to a whopping Rs 175 crore, making it 10 times more expensive than the original Tamil film.
The Tamil film, released in 2017 featured R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles, starring as Vikram and Vedha respectively. In the Hindi remake, Saif Ali Khan stars as Vikram while Roshan essays the role of Vedha. Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf and Sharib Hashmi also essay prominent roles in the Hindi film. The upcoming film is helmed by director duo Pushkar–Gayatri, who had also directed the original film. Gulshan Kumar, T-Series Films, and Reliance Entertainment are bankrolling the upcoming film in conjunction with Friday Filmworks and YNOT Studios Production.
