Vikram audio launch: Pa Ranjith hints at collaborating with Kamal Haasan

The audio and trailer launch of Vikram was truly a star-studded affair with Kamal Haasan, Lokesh Kanagaraj, Pa Ranjith, Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Anirudh Ravichander, and others attending it.

Speaking at the event, director Ranjith, whose latest outing was Sarpatta Parambarai (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), said he wishes to direct Kamal Haasan in a Madurai-based script. "I will be teaming up with him soon."

Adding Virumaandi was his personal favourite, Ranjith was quoted in a report, published by the New Indian Express, "Madurai-based films are generally known for their rural setup with the actors in the traditional veshti-sattai. It is not just the veshti-sattai Kamal that I'd be writing, it could also be a suited-up version."

Ranjith also expressed interest in directing Silambarasan. 

Kamal had earlier shared in an interview that he was penning a script that will be directed by Malayalam filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan. According to Cinema Express, Ulaganayagan will be joining hands with Ranjith post the completion of that project. However, an official word is awaited.

Back in August, Kamal Haasan had met Ranjith to appreciate the latter for his directorial venture, Sarpatta Parambarai, featuring Arya and Pasupathy in lead roles. 

For now, Pa Ranjith is awaiting the release of Natchathiram Nagargirathu. This project, also featuring Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan, Kalaiyarasan, Hari Krishnan and Shabeer Kallarakkal, will mark the director's return to the romance genre after his debut film, Attakathi.

Natchathiram Nagargirathu has cinematography by Kishor Kumar and music by Tenma, who both had collaborated in Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu, which was produced by Ranjith.

Also, the Kaala filmmaker has Maidhaanam (tentatively titled) with Vikram.

On the other hand, speculations were rife that Kamal will work with Vetrimaaran after news regarding a meeting between the two went viral. However, according to a report published by Cinema Express, Vetrimaaran has clarified that it was a formal meeting, thereby ruling out the possibility of an immediate collaboration.
