The wait is over. Vijay's Varisu, which hit screens on the occasion of Pongal, is all set to have its satellite premiere for this Tamil New Year. The channel made the announcement that the film will premiere at 6.30pm on April 14. The news has made Vijay fans excited and they are hoping for a complete TRP sweep as the family drama and action entertainer releases on TV. Since the day is a government holiday, it is expected that the family audience would catch the premiere.

Varisu, directed by Vamshi Paidipally, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film is also available in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. The film has an ensemble cast which includes Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna, in the lead and R Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Jayasudha, Srikanth, Shaam, Ganesh Venkatram, Yogi Babu, Sangeetha Krish, Samyuktha, VTV Ganesh, SJ Suryah forming the supporting cast.

The plot revolves around a business tycoon, who is looking for the right heir to take over his empire among his three sons Jay (Srikanth) and Ajay (Shaam), and Vijay (Vijay). Will the ultra-rich businessman find a worthy successor even as he battles a life-threatening disease that forms the plot of Varisu. The film marks the maiden collaboration between Vijay, Vamshi Paidipally and Rashmika Mandanna, and it went on to create a rampage at the box office.

Music for the film is by Thaman (his first film for Thalapathy), cinematography by Karthik Palani and editing by Praveen KL. The film is bankrolled and distributed by Seven Screen Studio and Red Giant Movies.

Varisu clashed with Ajith's Thunivu, a heavy-duty action entertainer directed by H Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor. The film revolved around a bank heist and the incidents that led towards it. Both films, despite falling in different genres, clashed in January 2023 and emerged as huge hits .
