Vijay Sethupathi’s son Surya Sethupathi to star in Anl Arasu’s film Phoenix

Following in the footsteps of his superstar father Vijay Sethupathi, Surya Sethupathi is gearing up for his debut as a lead actor in the upcoming film Phoenix. The action entertainer also marks stunt choreographer-turned-filmmaker Anl Arasu’s first directorial venture. The director recently shared a poster of the upcoming film, which has already created a huge buzz on social media, as netizens await for the film’s further updates. 

Surya Sethupathi’s initial entry into cinema as a child artiste

Surya initially stepped into Kollywood as a child artiste in his father’s superhit film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, in which he played the younger version of Vijay. The 2015 film, helmed by Vignesh Shivan, features Nayanthara as the female lead. Now, the young actor is set to take on the lead role in Phoenix. Interestingly, Surya is also teaming up with his father in Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai Part 2, in which Surya is where he is speculated to play a major role.

Surya Sethupathi’s OTT debut

In addition to his film endeavours, Surya is also entering the OTT space with the web series Nadu Center, a Disney+ Hotstar original show. Produced by Aqua Bulls Content, the series is expected to be a sports-based teen drama, involving basketball. The show is helmed by Naru Naarayanan. The director has also written series, along with Mahaakerthi Aravindaraj and Rajni. Reports suggest that the young actor has undergone extensive training in stunt choreography, dance and acting, before stepping into the limelight.

Earlier, it was reported that Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay will be making his entry into showbiz. However, unlike Surya, Jason is gearing up to make his directorial debut, which is bankrolled by Lyca Productions. 

In an interview, Jason revealed that it was a matter of pride for him to have his first film being backed by a prestigious production company. The filmmaker-in-making also revealed that he was very happy that they liked his story and thanked the production house ‘for giving him the creative freedom’.
