Maharaja, the upcoming Tamil film starring actor Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role, is set to hit theatres on June 14, the makers of the film announced on social media on Wednesday. The film marks the actor’s 50th as a lead actor.
Maharaja gets release date
Vijay Sethupathi, who was last seen in the Hindi-Tamil black comedy film Merry Christmas, is gearing up for the release of Maharaja. The film is the actor’s 50th film as a leading man and is all set to hit the big screens very soon. Maharaja will be released in theatres on June 14, the makers announced on social media.
Maharaja is written and directed by filmmaker Nithilan Saminathan, who made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed Kurangu Bommai. Apart from Vijay Sethupathi, Maharaja’s cast comprises Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natty (Natraj), Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Mamta Mohandas, Singampuli, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Vinoth Sagar, Boys Manikandan, Kalki, Sachana Namidass, and others. Maharaja will mark Anurag’s third Tamil film as an actor after Imaikaa Nodigal and Leo.

Backed by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy, the makers of Maharaja recently released an intriguing trailer for the film. The trailer showed Vijay Sethupathi as a hairdresser and titular character as he goes to a police station to lodge a complaint about something that has gone missing. He tells them that something called Lakshmi has been stolen but it is not clear what Lakshmi is, confusing the police. We are also introduced to the different characters from the story in the trailer.
The technical crew of Maharaja consists of Dinesh Purushothaman cranking the camera and music composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath. Philomin Raj has edited the film.
Mahajara is Vijay Sethupathi’s second release in 2024 after Merry Christmas. The actor recently wrapped up shooting of his next film, Ace, which has Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead. The actor also has Gandhi Talks in the pipeline, which has yet to get a release date.
