Vijay Sethupathi, who has had a few outings this year, has excitedly announced his next, which has Nithilan Saminathan of Kurangu Bommai fame at its helm. The project also marks the 50th film of the actor who has completed more than a decade of playing notable roles in Kollywood.

His latest movie has been titled Maharaja. Billed as a social drama with twists and turns, Anurag Kashyap and Mamta Mohandas have been essaying pivotal roles in it. Natty is another actor who will be seen playing a significant character.

Passion Studios, The Route and Think Studios have jointly bankrolled the project which has music by Ajaneesh B Loknath. Dinesh Purushothaman has cranked the camera for Maharaja which has editing by Philomin Raj. Anl Arasu has composed action choreography while V Selvakumar has helmed its art direction.

The makers have unveiled the movie's poster which doesn't feature the image of any actors in the movie. However, it has two images of the king on a chessboard, one in black and the other in white, straight and inverted. It hints at the film being a political drama. Tughlaq Durbar (2021) was Sethupathi's last political drama.

Maharaja marks Anurag Kashyap's second film as an actor in Tamil after Imaikaa Nodigal which was released in 2018. Fans of the filmmaker have been curious ever since the news of him acting again in Kollywood was out. Director Nithilan's Kurangu Bommai was a critically-acclaimed movie; cinephiles are eager to know what the filmmaker has to offer this time.

Sethupathi was seen in Michael, Viduthalai, Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir and Mumbaikar in 2023. His next big outing is the Bollywood project Jawan which is set to be released in less than two months.
