Vijay, Samantha face-off in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Thalapathy 67? Fans go bonkers over the news on social media

An official announcement on Thalapathy 67 is yet to be made, but fans of Vijay are excited to the core as director Lokesh Kanagaraj's last outing, the recent release Vikram (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar), went on to become the biggest hit in Tamil cinema.

Ever since the director hinted at teaming up with Vijay for the second time after Master (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), Tamil film lovers are eager to know if the upcoming project is part of the "Lokesh Cinematic Universe" (popularly known as LCU among fans) which he created in Vikram. A few characters of his film Kaithi (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar) were brought in Vikram, leaving cinephiles excited like never before. 

Though there is speculation that Thalapathy 67 will be linked to LCU, fans are awaiting a confirmation from the filmmaker himself. The project is expected to go on floors in a few months after Vijay wraps up shooting of Varisu which is slated for a theatrical release for Pongal 2023.

We now hear that Samantha will be playing a pivotal part in the Lokesh directorial; the news doing the rounds is that the actress might essay the role of a cop in the movie which will have Vijay playing a gangster.

The face-off between the two characters is said to be the main plot of the story. Vijay and Samantha shared screen space earlier in Kaththi, Theri and Mersal. The last time Vijay was seen in the role of a gangster was in Bigil.

The mutual fans of both the stars are going gaga over the news and started trending the same on Twitter in no time. However, they will have to wait for a few months to know if all these speculations are true.
