Vijay Deverakonda's Family Star is set for release on April 5, 2024, and there is a decent buzz. We at OTTplay have already reported that Family Star needs to make at least Rs 45 crore to be in a profit zone. Compared to his past few films, Vijay's market has gone down a bit, and we bring you the detailed pre-release business of his last few films.
After the success of Taxiwalala, the pre-release business of Vijay Deverakonda's Dear Comrade was set for Rs 34 crore. But sadly, the film ended as a flop and did not even make Rs 20 crore at the box office. Then, for his next film, World Famous Lover, things went down a bit as the pre-release business was locked at Rs 30 crore. The romantic drama ended as a disaster and did not even make Rs 15 crore.
After taking a brief gap, he teamed up with Karan Johar and Puri Jagan for Liger. As the film was a Pan-India project, the pre-release business was locked at Rs 88 crore. To everyone's shock, Liger ended as one of the biggest flops in Vijay's career, as it only made Rs 30 crore share India-wide.
To make things work, Vijay teamed up with Shiva Nirvana for Kushi. This time, the pre-release business was locked at Rs 50 crore. Even though the film started on a great note with solid reviews, Kushi only made Rs 40 crore. Now, he has teamed up with Dil Raju for a Family Drama.

Dil Raju is a hands-on producer. Seeing the dip in Vijay Deverakonda's market, he did not spend much on the film and locked the pre-release business at Rs 45 crore. The star producer is in the safe zone already as he has sold the post-release rights for a decent rate. Rs 15 crore has already come from the OTT rights of Family Drama.
Dil Raju has speeded up the promotions and spent a lot of money. He is confident that the Family Star will bring back the crowds and give Vijay a new lease of life in his career. In one of his interviews, Vijay was asked whether his attitude has taken a beating after a few flops. Vijay did not shy away and said he is the same and has decided to keep quiet until a few of his films become big hits.
So, Family Drama is a huge test for him to get back in the game. His fan following is huge, but he needs to prove his star power at the box office. Vijay's chemistry with Mrunal Thakur looks rocking in the promos. With this film, he has teamed up with Parasuram, who gave him his biggest hit, Geetha Govindam.
Vijay has to prove that he is a crowd-puller and can bring the audience to the theatres with Family Star. For now, Vijay Deverakonda is confident that he will bounce back and rule the box office yet again. Will that happen or not, only time will tell.
