Ratham actor Vijay Antony's 16-year-old daughter Meera died by suicide in the wee hours of Tuesday morning (September 19). Unconfirmed reports state that the teenager was battling depression, which led her to take the extreme step. Condolences have been pouring for the actor and composer from the film industry.
Old videos of the composer talking about suicidal thoughts go viral
In the meantime, old videos of Vijay Antony talking about suicide have now surfaced on the internet. In one of the videos, the composer reveals that his father had committed suicide. He says, "No matter how big the problem in your life is, never ever commit suicide. My dad died by suicide. I was barely 7 years old then. I know the struggle my mother faced to bring up two little children. I don't talk much and I am quite reserved because I have seen a lot. Life can be painful."
In another interaction, he said, "Most of the people commit suicide due to financial issues, or when they feel cheated by a loved one. As for students, it's the pressure faced at school and education. We don't give them enough time to recuperate and relax once they get back from school."
Vijay Antony's thoughts on mental wellness
Vijay Antony has time and again insisted on the importance of mental peace. He says, "No one knows anything. Be it the richest man on earth, a father or a mad person. There is no point comparing yourself with anyone. Everyone is going to die at 70, no matter how much money you have made, how much you have learnt or how big a personality you are. You need to realise that everyone is the same. So, whatever you do, you do it with a lot of peace in your mind and heart."
The composer had also stated that he had seen many extremes in life, personal and financial and this life itself was a huge lesson for him.
