Just days after losing his daughter to suicide, actor-musician Vijay Antony has issued a heartwrenching statement on the tragedy that has befallen his life. In a poignant note, he has vowed to turn his sorrow into something positive and work towards making this world a better place.
Describing his daughter as "courageous", Antony found solace in the fact that her daughter would now be safe from all the evils of the civilization. "To all the lovely people, my daughter Meera was very affectionate and courageous. Now she is in a better place devoid of caste, religious discrimination, money, envy, pain, and malice," he said.
Vijay Antony's irreplaceable loss
Antony's daughter Meera, who was just 16, was found dead at her Chennai residence earlier this week. Her untimely death and the confusion behind what drove such a young mind to take this extreme step sent shock waves across the country.
"She continues to talk to me. I also died with her. I have started spending time with her. From now on, she will initiate all the good things that I will undertake," Antony said expressing the agony over such an irreplaceable loss.
The Tamil film industry is in mourning
While the exact reason as to why Meera took her own life was unclear at the moment, many have blamed the academic stress she faced for the tragedy.
In the wake of Meera's death, Antony's past comments on the issue of suicide resurfaced online. In an earlier interview, he said, "Most of the people commit suicide due to financial issues, or when they feel cheated by a loved one. As for students, it's the pressure faced at school and education. We don't give them enough time to recuperate and relax once they get back from school. Self love is important."
The who's who of the Tamil film industry, including Kamal Haasan, expressed their solidarity with Antony. Mant took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their shock and urged their followers to seek help if they were struggling with suicidal thoughts.
