Vidyapati, which is Nagabhushana’s next as a leading man and second with Daali Dhananjaya’s home banner, will be in theatres on April 10, 2025. The film has been directed by director duo Esham-Haseen, who made the lockdown comedy Ikkat with Nagabhushana in the lead, and has the actor in the title role – the husband of superstar Vidya, Vidyapati.

Vidyapati directors Esham and Haseen pushed Nagabhushana out of his comfort zone

The trailer of Vidyapati was launched on March 19, and during the event, Nagabhushana reminisced how his acting aspirations earlier never went beyond doing the odd supporting role. It was Ikkat that elevated him to leading man status, a film that was shot during the pandemic, and was set within the confines of an independent house. Speaking at the trailer launch of Vidyapati, Nagabhushana said, “If Esham and Haseen could make an interesting and entertaining 2-hour film within a 20*30 house; imagine what they could pull off when given a bigger budget and canvas to play with. Vidyapati is that film and I am grateful that they trusted me to shoulder this responsibility.”

Nagabhushana is paired with Malaika Vasupal of Upadhyaksha fame in Vidyapati, which follows the conflict between his character and the villain Jaggu, played by Garuda Ram. How his life changes from being all about money and luxury to becoming a true hero for the near-and-dear ones in his life is the crux of the film. Dhananjaya chips in with a fun cameo as a character called Anaconda.

The actor adds that if he’s done good work in Vidyapati, it is down to the directors, who pushed him at every step of the way, never letting him settle into his comfort zone. The film also stars Girish Jatti, Bindu Raxidi, Srivatsa Shyam, Dharmanna Kadur, while filmmaker Vijayaprasad has a cameo. Dossmode is the main composer, while Vasuki Vaibhav has also chipped in for the BGM.
