The Karnataka state government’s cap of Rs 200 on movie tickets is yet to kick in officially, but the team of the upcoming Kannada comedy Vidyapati are set to pass on similar benefits to audiences who turn up to watch the film at the special paid premieres on April 9. Vidyapati, produced by Daali Dhananjaya and starring Nagabhushana and Malaika Vasupal (of Upadhyaksha fame – watch here ) in the lead, is set for theatrical release on April 10, 2025, ahead of which, KRG Studios, which is distributing the film in Karnataka, is having paid premieres in select cities.
In the evening of April 9, 10 multiplexes across Bengaluru, 2 in Mysuru, and 1 each in Shivamogga, Tumkur and Davanagere will have 1 premiere show each of Vidyapati, either at 7 pm, 7.30 pm or 9.30 pm, as the case maybe. Interestingly enough, the starting price of tickets for these shows are Rs 150 and going up to a maximum of Rs 400 (recliner seats) only. Advance bookings for most of the premiere shows have opened on ticket aggregator sites.
Vidyapati has been directed by director duo Esham and Haseen, of Ikkat fame. The film has Malaika playing a film star called Vidya, who has been registering hit after hit, and her husband, Siddu, played by Nagabhushana, who playfully calls himself Vidyapati, and lives a life of luxury that she affords him. When he then has a conflict with a local thug, Jaggu (Garuda Ram), Siddu has to figure out a way to get the better of him. But can Siddu put up a decent fight against Jaggu?

Vidyapati also stars Dhananajaya in a pivotal cameo as Jaggu, while Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare’s Srivatsa Shyam plays Siddu’s friend, Kumara. The film has music by Doss Mode, choreography by Murali Master, and cinematography by Lavith. It is Dhananjaya’s fourth production venture after Badava Rascal, Head Bush (watch here) and Tagaru Palya. While Badava Rascal and Head Bush were led by Dhananjaya, Tagaru Palya had Nagabhushana in the lead and was his first film in theatres as a leading man.
