Vetrimaaran, the celebrated Tamil filmmaker is set to make a comeback to the big screens with his long-awaited film Viduthalai Part 2. The movie, which is a sequel to the director’s highly acclaimed film Viduthalai Part 1, is set to hit the theatres on December 20, 2024. As per the latest updates, it has been confirmed that the project, which stars Vijay Sethupathi and Soori in the lead role, is reportedly censored again, after director Vetrimaaran trimmed over 8 minutes of footage.
According to the latest updates, Viduthalai Part 2 has been trimmed by 8 minutes. In a recent video dropped by the makers, director Vetrimaaran revealed that the team trimmed 8 minutes of the film, to make the film, to refine the runtime. “The final touches are done, and the team has trimmed 8 minutes of the film to refine the runtime. It was a learning journey, and now it is up to the audience to decide. We've poured our heart in this film!” said the filmmaker, in the video.
Vijay Sethupathi, who plays the lead role in Viduthalai Part 2, recently took to his official social media handles and shared the new video featuring Vetrimaaran, with a special post. “Thank you Vetrimaaran sir for everything... Viduthalai Part 2 from tomorrow in theatres... An Ilaiyaraaja musical,” wrote the National Award-winning actor, on his social media post. As per the reports, the final runtime of the much-awaited film is now reduced to two hours and 45 minutes.
Viduthalai Part 1, co-written and directed by Vetrimaaran, revolves around a police constable cop named Kumaresan, who is torn between his uniform and people’s movement against oppression. Soori plays Kumaresan in the film, while Vijay Sethupathi appears as Perumaal Vaathiyar, the leader of Makkal Padai. Viduthalai, which earned immense love from the audiences and critics, is available for streaming on Zee5 and OTTplay Premium.
Manju Warrier appears in the role of Perumal’s wife, in the film, which stars Soori, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Anurag Kashyap, Ken Karunas, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, and other essay the supporting roles. Ilaiyaraaja composed the songs and the original score for the film. R Velraj is the director of photography. R Ramar handles the editing. The highly anticipated project, jointly bankrolled by Grass Root Film Company and RS Infotainment, is slated to be released in theatres on December 20, 2024.
