Viduthalai Part 1 OTT release: When, where to watch this Vetrimaaran's drama

Filmmaker Vetrimaaran's latest movie Viduthalai Part 1 will have its OTT premiere by the end of May on Zee5. Sources reveal that the digital release of the movie was held back for 50 days since its initial theatrical release, in adherence to the filmmakers' obligation. Viduthalai is based on the short story Thunaivan and tells the story of tribal people fighting against corporate greed to protect their forest lands.

While many producers are struggling to maintain the ideal gap of five to eight weeks between theatrical and digital releases, Viduthalai is an exception. The film's producers have made efforts to keep the movie away from OTT platforms for a longer duration to encourage people to go to theatres. With revenue from the sale of digital rights becoming a significant source for producers, the streaming platforms are also driving a hard bargain.

Vetrimaaran has crafted the screenplay and directed Viduthalai, an ambitious two-part film that spans a total of five hours. The movie marks a significant milestone in the career of actor Soori, who has been predominantly known for his comedic roles but he played the lead role in this movie. In Viduthalai, Vijay Sethupathi plays the role of Perumal Vaathiyaar, a rebel leader, who only had a brief screen presence in the first part while the story revolved around Soori's character Kumaresan.

The movie has taken inspiration from real-life incidents and the second part is expected to further shed light on the social and political issues faced by tribal people in protecting their land and rights. The second part expected to release later this year. 

Last week, the Telugu dubbed version of the movie titiled Vidudhala Part 1 also released. According to reports, the opening for the movie in the Telugu states were better than expected .
