Vetri Maaran's much-awaited film Viduthalai hit screens amid much fanfare on March 31. The film marks the debut of Soori as a lead actor, with Vijay Sethupathi making an extended special appearance. The plot revolves around a police operation called GhostHunt, which is to capture a fugitive separatist leader called Perumal. How an upright police constable gets involved in the mission becomes the story arc and the plot traverses through his eyes.

The film has been basking in some fantastic reviews from the critics and audience alike. In the meantime, we hear that rustic Vetri Maaran has collected 8 crore on the opening day. This is said to be a great opening after the much-hyped Pongal releases- Ajith's Thunivu and Vijay's Varisu.
The supporting cast of the film includes Bhavani Sre, Gautham Menon, Rajiv Menon and Chethan. While the music of the film is by Ilaiyaraaja, the cinematography is by Velraj. The plot of Viduthalai is adapted from the novel Thooyavan, penned by B Jeyamohan.

While the film has been receiving rave reviews for its making, performances, narration, cinematography and background, Soori's debut as a lead actor has received a special mention. Many have called Soori's character, a role of a lifetime and that it's a lifetime settlement for the actor.

Stating that from time to time, the comedian in Soori would come upfront and he would have great difficulty to get out of the comic character. It was after Vetri Maaran stated that he had to imbibe the character completely that he finally got into the shoes of police constable Kumarasean and that there was no looking back after that.

Interestingly, Soori had also revealed that Vetri Maaran had narrated two scripts to him before Viduthalai and that both projects didn't materialise due to various reasons and that he was keeping his fingers crossed that someday he would work with the Asuran director.
