It’s going to back-to-back bumper releases for Lyca Productions in February and March this year, with Ajith Kumar’s much-anticipated Vidaamuyarchi and Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan, respectively.
At the teaser launch of the latter in Kochi, the producers brought together the directors of the much-awaited films, and Magizh Thirumeni, who is helming the Ajith-starrer that will hit theatres first on February 6, was all praise for Prithviraj Sukumaran’s dedication.
During his speech at the event, Magizh was all praise for Prithviraj, calling the teaser of the Mohanlal-starrer “epic”. “We all know what an excellent performer he (Prithviraj) is, but I have also heard what a perfectionist he is as a director. I have heard stories of your dedication, how you go without sleep to get that perfect shot, perfect film. All that hard work reflects on the teaser you just showed,” said the Tamil director.
The filmmaker also explained that he was a fan of Empuraan’s lead actor Mohanlal. “I have grown up watching his films, being awestruck by his performance, applauding, admiring and revering him,” he said.
Of late, Malayalam films have been doing well at the Tamil Nadu box office as well, with Manjummel Boys’ record run last year being the prime example. “Tamil and Malayalam cinema has always had a shared history. We have evolved together and there has always been an interchange of artistes, technicians, stalwarts and producers, and most of all - ideas that have shaped both our states. We have drawn inspiration from each other and have become richer as a result,” the Vidaamuyarchi director added.
He also went on to add that he is hoping Prithviraj’s latest directorial eclipses the feat of Lucifer at the box office. “Lucifer was a box-office success, not just in Kerala but across the country as well. Everyone in Tamil Nadu is looking forward to Empuraan as well,” he concluded, wishing success to the team of the movie, which is set to hit theatres on March 27.
