Vidaamuyarchi, the long-awaited Ajith Kumar starrer was originally supposed to hit the theatres in October 2024. However, the release of the Magizh Thirumeni directorial is now postponed indefinitely. Reportedly, Lyca Productions decided to put Vidaamuyarchi on hold and release only the Rajinikanth starrer Vettaiyan in October 2024, due to their ongoing financial issues. The production house is said to be having a major financial crisis, after the massive box office failure of Shankar’s Kamal Haasan starrer, Indian 2.
If the recent updates are to be believed, Lyca Productions is having a tough time financially, after the massive box office failure of Indian 2. Kamal Haasan and Shankar's film, made with a whopping budget of Rs 250 crore, hardly collected around Rs 50 crore at the box office.
This major setback has reportedly impacted the releases of other Lyca Productions projects, especially Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi. Even though the Magizh Thirumeni directorial is rumoured to hit the theatres in November 2024, the project is unlikely to hit the theatres as expected. The Ajith Kumar starrer might get pushed to 2025 and hit the theatres during the Pongal season, in January 2025.
According to the grapevine, Lyca Productions decided to put Vidaamuyarchi on hold for now, as it is impossible for the banner to release two back-to-back big-budget projects in theatres, at this point. The production house is hopeful that Vettaiyan, the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer will emerge as a major blockbuster and make up for the massive failure of Kamal Haasan starrer Indian 2. The banner has reportedly decided to announce the Vidaamuyarchi release date, only after considering the box-office performance of TJ Gnanavel’s film.

Meanwhile, Lyca Productions is reportedly planning to opt for an OTT release for Indian 3, the third installment in the franchise. If the reports are to be believed, the upcoming project of Kamal Haasan and Shankar is set to skip theatrical release and have a direct OTT release on Netflix. However, the makers have not reacted to these reports, yet. For the uninitiated, the infamous second installment of the franchise, Indian 2, is also available for streaming on Netflix.
