After Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif, it is Kajol whose deepfake videos surfaced on the internet recently. In a press conference in Kolkata, Sam Bahadur-actor Vicky Kaushal slammed the trend. Called it ‘horrendous’ and ‘heartbreaking’.

Answering a question by OTTplay, Vicky said, “Horrendous! It is completely horrendous. I don’t know where it starts from. It is a spineless act and it is the most horrible thing you can do.”

Elaborating further, Vicky said that celebrities might have the resources to tackle something as ‘horrible’ as a deepfake video. However, common people might not have a similar reach to convince people that it was some kind of technology. “When it happens to a celebrity they might have resources to tackle the incident. Needless to say, it is still a shameful thing to do. But imagine if this happens to someone who is not that resourceful – maybe a college girl, or someone who does not have so many resources to come out and say that ‘it wasn’t me’. How will they say, “It is someone else. It is something else – some other technology altogether. It is horrendous.”

Vicky further suggested that this should be ‘nipped in the bud’ by the authorities. “I really hope that cyber security or whoever is the authority to tackle it should nip it in the bud. I am sure they are on it. It is a new thing and it has shaken all of us already. It really is heartbreaking,” he said.

On Friday, after Kajol’s video surfaced online, it was revealed to be a video of an English social media influencer on TikTok. It was a video following the ‘get ready with me’ trend. Earlier, in the case of Katrina, a digitally changed image surfaced from her film, Tiger 3.
