After a wait of almost seven months, debutant director Achu Vijayan’s mystery thriller Vichitram has finally landed on a streaming platform. The movie, which was shot after the pandemic lockdown, was tailored as a theatrical film by its makers, paying careful attention to its sound design as well as visuals.
Vichitram has Shine Tom Chacko, Balu Varghese, Lal, Kani Kusruti, James Eliya, Ketaki Narayan and Jolly Chirayath in lead roles, and revolves around a series of incidents that happen to a family in a span of 10 days. While the movie deals with multiple genres, it essentially works as a drama revolving around a dysfunctional family.
What is Vichitram’s story?
The movie tells the story of Jasmine and her five sons. While the family is struggling financially and is forced to vacate their rented house, Jasmine’s brother passes away and she decides to move into her ancestral home – the same place that she had left after eloping with her late husband. While she never made peace with her brother, a series of incidents that transpire while the family moves in – some unexplained – gives her and her family members an opportunity for closure.
In an earlier interview with us, Achu said, “Vichitram is a crime mystery thriller that will also provide a horror experience. Horror doesn’t apply just to the presence of ghosts. The movie has several elements that will frighten the audience. The filmmaker says that the team has paid a lot of attention and put in the most work to perfect its visuals as well as sound design.”
Incidentally, Shine Tom Chacko had played a pivotal role in aiding Achu to make the movie. The movie was initially pitched to the actor, who then asked its scriptwriter Nikhil Ravindran to meet Achu.
When and where to watch Vichitram?
Vichitram is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
