Viduthalai, directed by Vetrimaaran, is one of the most-anticipated releases of this year. The film's shoot is nearing completion, and the latest information is that the makers are camped in Sirumalai. This is the fourth schedule, which has been going on in full swing for 50 days.

Starring Vijay Sethupathi and Soori in lead roles, Viduthalai is bankrolled by Elred Kumar of RS Infotainment which has backed films like Ko and Yaamirukka Bayamey. The posters of the film were released last year, which saw Vijay Sethupathi as a mentor, and Soori as the protagonist, in a police uniform.

Touted to be an edge-of-seat-thriller, Viduthalai has a music score by Ilaiyaraaja. This marks Vetrimaaran's first collaboration with the veteran music composer. The filmmaker's frequent collaborator Velraj is handling the cinematography. The film has editing by R Ramar and action choreography by Peter Hein.

Also featuring Gautham Menon, Prakash Raj and Bhavani Sre of Paava Kadhaigal-fame in crucial roles, Viduthalai has been shot in and around Sathyamangalam forests, Dindigul and so on. According to a report published by Cinema Express, the film has a total of three songs, and one of them has been sung by Dhanush. Though the actor has sung many popular songs, this is the first time he is singing under Ilaiyaraaja's composition.

This Vetrimaaran film is based on Jeyamohan's short story Thunaivan. Interestingly, the 1986 Tamil film starring Sivaji Ganesan and Rajinikanth was also titled Viduthalai.

In a recent media interaction, Soori said that he agreed to be a part of Viduthalai after listening to just one line of the story from Vetrimaaran. “It’s every actor’s dream to work with Vetri sir. When he called and told me he had this story which he’d like to tell me, I didn’t even think for a minute to give my nod.”

Soori didn’t divulge any details regarding the film’s genre but he confirmed that he will be seen in a very different character.

Vetrimaaran, known for making films like Aadukalam, Visaranai, and Asuran, is working with Sethupathi for the first time.

The makers are planning to release Viduthalai as a pan-India film, in multiple languages.

After completing work on this project, Vetrimaaran will begin shooting for his next project with Suriya, titled Vaadivasal. Written by CS Chellappa, it is a story about a bull and the one who captures it. The film will unfold against the backdrop of Jallikattu, the ancient sport practised in Tamil Nadu in which a bull has to be captured.
