Vetrimaaran is one of the most sought-after talents in the South Indian film industry. The National Award-winning filmmaker established himself as one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in the Tamil film industry with back-to-back exceptional films. However, in a recent interview, Vetrimaaran stated that he is not a good role model to aspiring filmmakers.

Vetrimaaran reveals his advice to aspiring filmmakers

Interestingly, the Viduthalai director, who opened up about his process of filmmaking to the Film Companion YouTube channel, stated that he starts his project without a well-planned-out structure. Vetrimaaran discovers a film during the process of making it, and it was the same for Viduthalai. The project, which was originally planned to be shot in a 35-day-long single schedule, became a massive project that took 120 days to complete.

The director kept on writing and adding during the process, which eventually made Viduthalai a two-part film. It took almost three times the original budget to finish the Soori starrer. Many characters, including the role played by Vijay Sethupathi, were added to the screenplay during the course of its making.

The director, who credited his supportive producer for the completion of the project, however, added that he is not a good role model for aspiring directors. According to Vetrimaaran, he always tells aspiring filmmakers who wish to work as his assistant directors to watch his films if they want to learn something from him. The filmmaker also added that he always tells his assistants not to learn from the way he works.

Vetrimaaran’s upcoming projects

In his recent chat with Film Companion, Vetrimaaran confirmed that the making of Viduthalai Part 2 is complete. The director revealed that he is planning to send the much-awaited second installment of the acclaimed film to some prestigious film festivals before it gets released in theatres.

After the release of Viduthalai, Vetrimaaran is expected to kickstart the shooting of Vaadivaasal, the highly anticipated period film that marks his first collaboration with Suriya. The project, which is based on the renowned novel of the same name, was announced a couple of years ago. But Vaadivaasal was delayed indefinitely due to the pandemic and multiple lockdowns.
