Kannada film actor Kamala Kumari who is best known by her stage name Jayanthi passed away on Monday morning, aged 76 in her sleep.

The actor battled with breathlessness and asthma for a long time because of which has been hospitalised multiple times over the past couple of years and now she has finally succumbed to death. Jayanthi’s son Krishna Kumar informed Bangalore Times about her demise. He said that they had actually hoped for her recovery and instead received the most unfortunate news. She acted in over 500 films in multiple languages including Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi.
Jayanthi was also popularly known as ‘Abhinaya Sharadhe’ or the goddess of acting. The last time when the actor associated with Bangalore Times which was last year when she was stuck in Hampi during the lockdown, she said she spent some quality time with nature and its surroundings, she also talked with her beloved via video calls.
Jayanthi has done many notable works in the film industry, especially in Sandalwood. She was very convivial with her peers, co-actors and wherever she was present for that matter. The late actor cheered everyone up and had a very optimistic approach towards different matters.
Jayanthi had bagged several awards back in her day. She won the Karnataka State Film Awards seven times and the Filmfare Awards twice. She was privileged enough to have shared a screen with many coveted actors of her era and even worked with the youth. The actor emitted a jovial aura among them. Jayanthi’s colleagues say that this body of work, where she reigns supreme, will ensure she remains immortal.
