Venkat Prabhu, who made his directorial debut with the iconic film Chennai 600028, has completed 15 years in the industry as a director. The comedy drama based on cricket and friendship, had an ensemble cast including Jai, Shiva, Vijayalakshmi, Nitinsathyaa, Aravind Akash, Vijay Vasanth, and was considered as a trendsetter in Tamil cinema. It was a runaway success at the box office, too. Venkat Prabhu then went on to make films like Saroja, Goa, Mankatha, Biriyani, Mass Engira Maasilamani, Chennai 600028 and the recent Silambarasan-starrer Maanaadu. He also frequently collaborated with some of the actors from his maiden venture.
Taking to his social media page on the special occasion, the ace director wrote, “15 years ago, on this day, I began my journey as a director with Chennai 600028. And today, I have completed 15 years in the industry. This day is a beautiful one due to the blessings of the late singer SP Balasubrahmanyam sir and his son, my friend SP Charan, who had the faith in me and bankrolled the film. I have learned a lot with every film I made as I did not get the opportunity to learn from legendary directors. But my attempt at trying something new has never come down. While some of my films were a success, a few others went on to teach me lessons.”
He added, “Despite the fact that my films have come out after a gap of four to five years, fans have never forgotten Venkat Prabhu, the person, and have always given their support every time I came up with a new release. I am obligated to your love. As my mother's first death anniversary approaches, I dedicate my cinema journey to her. I am grateful to my producers, directors, technicians, stars, friends, media, and all good hearts who have stood by me.”
