Alia Bhatt's film Jigra was one of the most awaited movies of 2024. People pinned high hopes on the movie starring Alia and Vedang Raina. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film opened to mixed reviews and failed to perform at the box office. It tuned out to be Alia's lowest box office opener. Following Jigra's debacle, filmmaker Vasan Bala said it was his 'responsibility' to deliver the film well at the box office.

Vasan Bala on Alia Bhatt's Jigra box office failure

In an interview with Fever FM, Vasan Bala said Alia Bhatt is the first choice for every filmmaker. The director believes Bhatt could've been on any other film set but she was doing Jigra during that time. "So she has to make that choice. And she has trusted me with that choice. So it is my responsibility to deliver box office, because we are in the business of filmmaking also," said Vasan.

The director mentioned that he now wants to assess what went wrong with his film Jigra. Bala believes it is a director's responsibility to justify an actor's time. "So that is why I need to analyze. Kuch toh hua hai na (Something has happened, right)? Something has happened where people have stayed away, something that they have not bought, something that they didn't feel the need to come to the theatre. If at all any other actor decides to give their time, his or hers, then you know, make it worth it."

Jigra box office collection

For the uninitiated, Jigra took an opening of Rs 4.55 crore at the box office. It was followed by Alia's film minting Rs 6.55 crore and Rs 5.5 crore on days two and three at the ticket window. After 10 days of its theatrical run, Jigra's BO collection is approximately Rs 27.30 crore.

Once Jigra's theatrical run ends, the film will have heads for its OTT premiere. Netflix has been confirmed as the streaming platform for Jigra's digital premiere. Keep following this space for more updates from the world of streaming and movies!
