Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina starrer Jigra was recently released in theatres with underwhelming box office response. When the film hit the theatres, Producer Bhushan Kumar's wife and actress Divya Khossla claimed that the makers are promoting the film with fake box office numbers and shared a picture of an empty theatre. Later, the actress also accumed the makers of the sibling drama copied the film from her moie, Savi. Now, in a recent interview, Vasan Bala opened up about the plagiarism claims.
In a recent interview with Times Now, director Vasan Bala reacted to Divya Khossla's remarks about Jigra and said that as both the films are now available to watch, people can watch and have their own opinions about the films. He said, “Both films are out, it’s in the public domain, please watch and make up your own minds, also free speech, so everyone is entitled and has the right to say what they want even without watching both films. Can’t stop any of that.”
The makers of Jigra had high expectations from the film but it failed to perform well at the box office. Made under the budget of 80-90 crores, the film collected Rs 27.80 crore, according to Sacnilk. Talking about the same Bala said, “The Box Office let us down. As a director, if 100% faith is put on me in every department of the creatives then Box Office also needs to be taken care of by me. In that department, it’s clearly a letdown on my front.”
Jigra is directed by Vasan Bala and co-produced by Karan Johar ’s Dharma Productions and Alia Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions. Written by Debashish Irengbam and Bala, the film was released in theatres on October 11, 2024.
