Accepting failure with grace is a matter that's easier said than done, especially in the film industry where fortunes and equations change with the result of a film every Friday. Ghani was a long-awaited release for Varun Tej, who put his heart and soul into it, despite many factors turning out to be roadblocks, including his injury, sustaining the look for over three years amidst two lockdowns. Yet, the result of the film, directed by Kiran Korrapati, was far from satisfying for both the actor and his fans the previous weekend.
Ghani had no buzz going for it before the release, despite the huge names associated with it and couldn't offer anything new to audiences in terms of characterisation or the sports drama genre. While Varun Tej's earnest performance was praised by many, not many were impressed with the plot or its lacklustre treatment. Made at a budget of over Rs 30 crore, Ghani may turn out to be a huge loss for the producers and distributors.
In what was a rare gesture by any actor in the Telugu industry, Varun Tej shared a note on his social media, taking responsibility for the commercial failure of Ghani. Adding that he's humbled by the love audiences have showered upon him over the years, he thanked the entire team of Ghani, especially its producers, for giving it their best during its making. "We worked with real passion and hard work to deliver a good film to you, and somehow the ideation didn't translate as we thought it would," he added.
Varun stated that his sole purpose behind every film is to entertain audiences and that every project is indeed a learning curve, regardless of success or failure. "Sometimes I succeed & sometimes I learn, but I will never stop working hard. Thank you! Love," he wrote. In an industry where actors prefer to live in a bubble and start blame games after a film's failure, such a response from a young actor like Varun Tej is indeed the need of the hour and sets a good example.
Upendra, Naveen Chandra, Nadhiya, Naresh, and Jagapathi Babu played supporting roles in Ghani while Saiee Manjrekar was cast as the female lead. Ghani was produced by Allu Bobby and Sidhu Mudda. S Thaman had scored the music and Tamannaah Bhatia also made a special appearance in a number Kodthe. The sports film will premiere on aha shortly.
