Reports last month suggested Varun Dhawan would start filming Border 2 in January. On January 10, he did indeed begin filming in Babina Cantonment in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, for Anurag Singh's directing project. While his co-stars Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty have not yet arrived for filming, Mid Day has discovered that an Army officer is a key player on set. This officer will guarantee that the film's portrayal of the Indian Armed Forces is accurate.
Reportedly, when the film was in its early phases, Singh and producer-writer Nidhi Dutta sought the backing of the Indian Army to ensure that it accurately depicted a chapter from the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict.
An Army official oversees and approves Sheetal Sharma's uniform designs during the pre-production stage, ensuring their historical and functional appropriateness, according to an insider from the creative team. Production commenced last week, with the deployment of another officer to aid Varun in his portrayal of a jawan. He made sure the actor's stride, speech pattern, and body language matched the regimented attitude of the military. In addition, he is instructing the actors on how to operate artillery. Yesterday, Anurag, Varun, and Nidhi met with the station commander. The officers in the Army are making it simple to shoot.
The sequel to JP Dutta's 1997 smash hit Border (1997) will feature Dhawan as an Uttarakhand Army officer. As it befits his personality, the actor has learnt the local dialect. According to the source, Diljit plays an officer in the Air Force, Sunny a major in the Army, and Ahan a commander in the Navy.
After two weeks of filming in the Babina cantonment, the director will lead the squad to Gwalior for the second schedule.
Once February rolls around, Sunny, Diljit, and Ahan will be joining Varun. This leg, which continues until March, will feature the main battle scenes. Nick Powell, who has worked on The Bourne Identity (2002) and Kalki 2898 AD (2024), among other projects, is responsible for producing the action. They will film the characters' backstories on a different schedule.
