Actor Sreeram Ramachandran is well-known among Malayalis for his roles in several films and the popular Asianet series Kasthooriman, but many people are unaware that he started his career working with well-known artistes from the Tamil and Kannada film industries.
Sreeram discussed his early experiences in the film industry in an interview with OTTplay. He talked about how helping in the art departments of Vijay starrer Villu and Prashanth Neel's first film, Ugramm, changed his life. His latest film, Varshangalkku Shesham, is now streaming on Sony LIV.
"I am sure nobody would even believe me if I told them I worked in both KGF-fame Prashanth's most critically acclaimed film and Villu with Vijay and Prabhudeva. Not too many people are aware of it either," he remarked.
The actor asserted that, even though he has always had a strong passion for acting, these two films served as his introduction to the industry. "Sunil Babu, who worked in several Malayalam and Tamil films and was a close associate of renowned art director Sabu Cyril, was my mentor. In 2008, I began working with him," he continued. Sreeram stressed that the journey was not simple and that he arrived in Chennai at the age of 23, unsure of what to do next.

Sometimes, when I was helping the art team, I would just walk by in front of the camera. Even the instructions to set up a spot in front of the camera before taking the actual shot excited me," he said.
The Varshangalkku Shesham star mentioned that it was a surreal experience moving from the sets of Villu to Ugramm. The film featured monochromatic backgrounds as well as various textures and properties with sombre undertones. It was a novel and exciting project because it was something we had never seen before," he remarked. Sreeram continued by stating that he used to overhear conversations on the sets about how Prashanth Neel would undoubtedly transform Kannada cinema.
