Varisu vs Thunivu: Thalapathy Vijay said THIS after knowing about the epic clash with Ajith's film for Pongal

It's known that Vijay's Varisu and Ajith's Thunivu are set to have a box office clash for the forthcoming Pongal festival in Tamil Nadu in January. The makers of the former have already announced the release date, while the latter's team is yet to come up with an exact date.

But trusted sources say that the much-awaited movies are likely to arrive on January 12. While Varisu is billed as a family drama, Thunivu is touted as an action thriller. The former has been directed by Vamshi Paidipally and the latter has H Vinoth at the helm.

Actor Shaam, who plays a vital role in Varisu, has now spilled the beans on what Vijay has said after knowing about the much-anticipated box office clash. In an interview with an online portal, he has said that Thalapathy has welcomed the clash and that he was happy about team Thunivu's decision to release the film along with Varisu.

The Beast star is also said to have pinned hopes on the box office results of both the projects. According to Shaam, Vijay said that he wants the two movies to win big and entertain the audience during the festival season.

It is after nine years that movies of Vijay and Ajith are locking horns at the box office. Their films Jilla and Veeram faced each other for 2014 Pongal festival, and the two movies ended up as successful ventures. However, fans of the two stars still continue to argue over which among them made more money.

Team Varisu has released two singles, Ranjithame and Thee Thalapathy, while team Thunivu is unveiling their first single Chilla Chilla this Friday. With a little over a month away from their releases, Kollywood has geared up for the epic clash.
