Valimai, starring Ajith and Huma Qureshi, was released on February 24. It made such an impact on its opening day that reports were rife with how the film had one of the biggest openings that Kollywood has witnessed in recent times.
According to a press release, Valimai has crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark at the box office, and is on the way to becoming one of Ajith’s highest-grossing films.
The film reportedly earned over Rs.30 crore across Tamil Nadu, and even seemed to replicate its success outside the country as well.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala recently took to Twitter to remark how well the film was doing in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and other places as well.
Cinephiles had been in anticipation to see Ajith’s latest project, Valimai, hit screens for quite some time. So palpable was their anxiousness for the film that fans’ calls for updates on the film even inspired a trending phenomenon, with Twitter being bombarded with hashtags of #ValimaiUpdate. So to say expectations for the film were high would be an understatement. And it seems that fans’ excitement for H. Vinoth’s action thriller had got them flocking to theatres as soon as the film hit the big screen.
The film also features Kartikeya Gummakonda, Huma Qureshi, Yogi Babu, Pugazh, Sumitra, GM Sundar and Pearle Maaney in pivotal roles.
Produced by Boney Kapoor under his Bayview Projects LLP banner, Valimai marks the second collaboration between him. Ajith and Vinoth. The trio are also working on Ajith’s upcoming project, tentatively titled AK 61.
