A science-fiction mockumentary is unlikely to be the choice of a young filmmaker for his third movie, especially in the Malayalam industry which is known for its rooted films with realistic portrayals. But Arun Chandu did the unthinkable with Gaganachari and even managed to woo the audiences with Anarkali Marikar-starrer. Now, the young filmmaker has announced his next movie, titled Vala, and also shared the first-look poster.
Vala reunites Arun Chandu with Gaganachari cast Gokul Suresh, Aju Varghese, Anarkali Marikar, K B Ganeshkumar. The film also features Madhav Suresh and John Kaippallil. Interestingly, actor-politician Suresh Gopi's sons Gokul Suresh and Madhav Suresh will be acting together for the first time in Vala.
A while ago, the makers of Vala shared the first-look poster of the film. The poster showed an image of the earth, taken from space, attached with red tentacle-like wires. While promising a gripping movie, the makers wrote on social media - “The apocalypse is here. The dead are rising, and survival is the only option. VALA will keep you on the edge of your seat.”
The poster poses the question - ‘Are we living in a simulation?’.
Earlier in an interview with OTTplay, the director had spoken about a project on simulative climactic fiction and that he hoped to find people to back his ambitious project. Now with the announcement, the young filmmaker seems to have got the right support. Vala is produced by Underdogs Entertainments and co-produced by Letters Entertainments.
The movie, which is likely to be yet another sci-fi adventure, is set to release in 2025.
On Christmas eve, Arun Chandu shared a video of Aju Varghese and Gokul Suresh that teased the arrival of Vala and promised a spooky zombie movie is in the works. The Instagram post asked 'if it is the season of zombies'. .
However, hours before the first-look poster of Vala was unveiled on Christmas day, another Malayalam zombie movie Jambi was announced. Directed by George Kora, Jambi will feature Pearle Maaney. Produced by the Weekend Blockbusters, this film will hit theatres in 2026.
