Vaaranam Aayiram re-released on GVM’s birthday; 16 years later, fans enjoy it like they did the first time

Vaaranam Aayiram, the 2008 coming-of-age romantic drama directed by filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon, re-released in theatres recently to celebrate the filmmaker's birthday on February 25. The film, which stars Suriya in the lead role, mirrored its initial release with a positive reception.

Vaaranam Aayiram also stars Simran, Divya Spandana, and Sameera Reddy in her Tamil debut, among others. The film is said to be inspired by Gautham Menon’s life.

Vaaranam Aayiram gets glorious reception

Sixteen years after its first release, Vaaranam Aayiram has made it to theatres once again. The film stars Suriya in dual roles as father and son, as the latter, who is serving in the military, gets the news of his father’s death. The film traverses across different time periods, focusing on the romantic life of the protagonist.

The film won glorious reviews upon its release and also bagged the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. It has music by Harris Jayaraj, which became another plus point for the film. What lies ahead for Gautham Vasudev Menon?

Gautham Menon is currently awaiting the release of the action-drama Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha. The film will hit theatres on March 1. Backed by the Vels Film International banner, the film stars Varun of Bigg Boss fame in the lead role. The film has been certified U/A and marks the filmmaker’s directorial after the 2022 Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. Meanwhile, the filmmaker’s spy thriller Dhruva Natchathiram, starring Vikram in the lead role, is yet to see the light of day. The film has been ready for a long time but the release has been delayed due to some financial issues.

On the acting front, Gautham Menon is part of a number of films, including filmmaker Vetri Maaran's duology Viduthalai. In Malayalam, Gautham Menon will be seen alongside Mammootty in Bazooka. The film is directed by Deeno Dennis.
