One of the highly anticipated Tamil movies is Suriya-starrer Vaadi Vaasal which will have Vetri Maaran at its helm. The project to be bankrolled by Kalaippuli S Thanu was announced earlier, and a test shoot took place earlier this year in the outskirts of Chennai. One of the reasons the film carries huge expectations is because of the first collaboration between Suriya and Vetri.

The movie revolves around the traditional sport of jallikattu, which is another reason for its hype. The film is expected to go on floors in a full-fledged manner in 2023.

Vetri Maaran has now said that the film will be set in the time period between 1960 and 1970. According to him, the major plot of the movie happens during early 60s and late 60s when Tamil Nadu goes through a politically volatile situation. However, he remained tight-lipped about other details of the project.

The acclaimed filmmaker is also the show runner of the web series Pettaikaali which is currently streaming on aha Tamil. Interestingly, it is also based on jallikattu. However, he clarified that both the projects are different in terms of the time period in which their respective stories happen.

Vetri's next outing Viduthalai, starring Soori in the lead, is likely to be released next month. The movie, which is based on the novel penned by B Jeyamohan, will be released in two parts. Vijay Sethupathi, Prakash Raj and Gautham Menon among others essay key roles in the film.

On the other hand, Suriya has completed a schedule of Siva's Suriya 42, and will wrap up the remaining portions of Bala's Vanangaan. The actor is likely to join Vaadi Vaasal in 2023.
