When Gadar 2 was released in theatres, it took the box office by storm by collecting over ₹691.08 crore worldwide and ₹524.75 crore in India. The film starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma was directed by Anil Sharma, who also directed the first film. Now, in a recent interview, Utkarsh reveals that the team has their doubts before releasing Gadar 2 and also hints at Gadar 3.
In an interview with DNA, Utkarsh Sharma, who reprised his role as Sunny Deol's son in Gadar 2 revealed that they had their doubts about the film's relevance as the first part of the film was released 22 years back. He said, "Before anyone else, we had doubts about Gadar 2. This is one of the reasons why we took so many years. Gadar 1 was a complete film. But when fans asked us to bring Gadar 2, papa had this thing that the sequel should be an extension of Part One."
The young actor further adds that although people suggested they bring a standalone film with different actors, his father (Anil Sharma) knew that the Gadar franchise had die-hard fans and he was sure that the audience would not accept any other Tara (Sunny Deol), Sakina (Ameesha Patel) or Jeete (Utkarsh Sharma).
Utkarsh also shared an update on Gadar 3 and said, "We have a one-liner for the film. That's why we ended Gadar 2 with 'To be continued'. But we don't have the complete story yet. It can take a day or 1000 days or years, but as we will get our Gadar 3 script locked then we can say when to expect the third installment."
Meanwhile, Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, had its theatrical premiere on August 11, 2023. In this sequel, set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, Tara Singh must once again confront any and all foes in order to defend the honour of his country and his family. The film also featured Manish Wadhwa, Luv Sinha, and Simrat Kaur in supporting roles.
