Box office clashes of big-ticket movies is nothing new, but when Real Star Upendra’s film UI was announced as a December 20 release much earlier, the assumption was that he’d be given a clear window, as far as other Kannada releases go. He and his team, had, after all allowed other films to take up dates they had in mind, and did not attempt to clash with any.

But then came news of Kiccha Sudeep’s Max hitting theatres only 5 days after UI. The film, which was already delayed, could have released at a later date, but for reasons best known to him, producer Kalaippuli S Thanu zeroed in on December 25. What does Upendra think of this clash?

“There is history of 2 big films releasing at the same time and both doing well. More recently, Bheema and Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi came out in quick succession and both were well received. There is no war between UI and Max; there is no space for such negativity. Sudeep’s film is releasing a good 5 days later, and my humble request is that audiences should watch both films,” said Upendra, speaking to Guarantee News.

The actor-filmmaker adds that talks of a clash have come up because of the choice of release dates with people speculating that it was done deliberately. “On the contrary, if they had not released this year, these same people would have said that the team fears risking a clash. I’d say that people ought to see it as a positive development – that two good Kannada films are coming to theatres; go and watch both,” Upendra adds.

At the end of the day, what matters is whether people like your film. If they do, they will help your film grow organically. But, on the other hand, if it does not work for them, it does not matter if you have a 1,000 screens at your disposal, reasoned the Real Star, who has been busy promoting his upcoming film, even while continuing to keep the content under wraps.
