Unni Mukundan's Malayalam film Marco has set a new benchmark for high-octane action thrillers in the cinema world. The film has been doing exceptionally well at the box office even after almost a month of release. The movie which was released on December 20, 2024, gave a tough competition to Varun Dhawan's Baby John. The latter film was released on December 25 and underperformed at the box office. In a new interview, Unni Mukundan opened up about giving fierce competition to Baby John, violence in Marco, and more.

Unni Mukundan on Marco's hyperviolence

When asked about Marco's hyperviolence, Mukundan said that it is just 30 percent of what they actually wanted to shoot. They have not tried to glorify it. "We have shot it aesthetically and tried to present it in a way that the audience can understand," he added.

Unni also said that violence has always been a part of human evolution and World cinema also boasts action and violence. "Additionally, the audiences have matured and come a long way,” said Mukundan.

Meanwhile, OTTplay's review of Marco reads, "The film does make for a good time in theatres — thanks to its stylish action sequences and thumping background score. But be warned, it has  some stomach-churning sequences that aren't for the fainthearted."

Marco already beat several superstar films including Mammootty’s Bheeshmaparvam, Mohanlal’s Neru, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Guruvayoor Amabalanadayil, and Tovino Thomas’ Ajayante Randam Moshanam in its Rs 100 Cr box-office run.
