Un Samayal Arayil, the official remake of the superhit Malayalam film Salt N Pepper, marked Prakash Raj’s third outing as a filmmaker. The movie, which was simultaneously made in three languages, emerged as a blockbuster in Kannada. Even though the Tamil and Telugu versions failed to do well commercially, they impressed the audiences after releasing on television and OTT. Sneha played the female lead in Un Samayal Arayil, which features Tejus, Samyukta Hornad, Urvashi, and others in pivotal roles. The movie is currently available for streaming on Sun NXT and OTTplay Premium.
If you are someone who loves food and cooking, this film is for you. For the uninitiated, food is the most important character of the film, which takes the story forward and plays an instrument in bringing up all major turning points. It is their love for food that brings the protagonists Kalidasan and Gowri, the unmarried and lonely individuals, together. It is the love for food that develops a lovely bond between the protagonist and his innocent cook Krishna, played by Thambi Ramaiah.
Un Samayal Arayil is a decent romantic comedy that narrates the unique love story of two middle-aged individuals, who were left alone in their lives. Their romance unfolds by sharing the common love for food, especially the special ‘Kutti Dosa’, and later with long phone conversations. We are also introduced to a young couple named Naveen and Gowri (Thejus and Samyukta Hornad) simultaneously. How the love story develops for both the pairs, is heartwarming to watch.
If you are a big fan of maestro Ilaiyaraaja, this film is for you. The Isaignani composed songs and the original score for all three versions of Un Samayal Arayil. The signature soundtrack and the soulful background score composed by the legend have made the love story of Kalidasan and Gowri, and their common love for food, even more impactful.
