When and where to watch

This 2022 film is gearing up for its international OTT release to cater to the horror-genre audience as the thrilling story will be unveiled on January 1 on Netflix. It was previously available only for US viewers.

Trailer grapples secret past

Written and directed by Iris K Shim – Umma, which is the Korean word for mother, narrates the life of a single mother Amanda whose secret past catches up with her after the death of her mother. With a lot of jump scares and plot twists, Umma will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Plot/cast

Amanda is living a humble and peaceful life with her daughter on the countryside American farm, but her life takes a dark turn when the remains of her estranged mother suddenly arrive from her native land Korea.  Amanda then grapples with the fear of becoming like her own terrifying mother.

Sam Raimi spearheads the project as the producer, while the Golden Globe award winner Sandra Oh plays the significant character of mother Amanda, Fivel Stewart as her daughter Chrissy, Dermot Mulroney as Danny, Odeya Rush as River, MeeWha Alana Lee as Park Soon-yi plays the titular, mysterious character of Amanda's mother (Umma), and Tom Yi as Mr Kang, Amanda's uncle.

The streaming giant Netflix has added several thrillers like Fool Me Once, The Abandoned, and Griselda for its January slots. Stay tuned for more updates.
