Bhoothakalam and Kumbalangi Nights actor Shane Nigam’s feel-good movie Ullasam finally gets an OTT release date after almost six months since the film made its way to theatres in July. The movie, helmed by Jeevan Jojo, saw Shane in a full-length comedy for the first time in his career.
Also starring Pavithra Lakshmi, the film revolves around two youngsters – Harry and Nima – who meet during a train journey from Coonoor. The two strike an unlikely friendship and decide to enjoy their limited time together, without divulging much about themselves or their past. However, the feelings they develop for each other still lingers after they part ways. What happens when they meet years later forms the plot of the feel-good romantic film, which also has Aju Varghese, Basil Joseph and Deepak Parambol in pivotal roles.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Shane had said that after doing Ullasam, he had gained confidence that he could pull off comedy and romantic roles. “The major challenge while doing such films is getting the comedy timing right. Also, entertainers have a pace and you have to perform accordingly,” he said, adding that he grew up listening to his father and late mimicry artiste Abi’s jokes and so knew he had it in him to pull off such roles.
The film’s OTT rights have been bagged by Amazon Prime Video, which had also streamed Shane’s previous theatrical release – Veyil. Ullasam is expected to drop on the streaming platform on December 25.
Meanwhile, Shane had previously announced that he was planning to launch his own OTT channel with his directorial titled Somewhere. The short film, which is about 26 minutes in duration, is scripted by the actor along with Fayaz NW and revolves around four characters.
The actor’s next release will be Vela, in which he will be seen playing a civil police officer. Sunny Wayne and Sidharth Bharathan are also part of the film’s cast.
