Ulajh lands on OTT! Here's where you can stream Janhvi Kapoor's spy thriller

Nearly two months after its theatrical run, Ulajh, the spy thriller, has finally made its way to OTT. The film featuring Janhvi Kapoor in the leading role is now streaming on Netflix. Adil Hussain, Roshan Mathew, and Gulshan Devaiah play crucial roles in the Junglee Pictures-produced and Sudhanshu Saria-directed film Ulajh.

Ulajh plot summary

The story follows a young IFS officer named Suhana Bhatia (Janhvi Kapoor), who comes from a long line of patriots, as she embarks on a life-altering assignment far from home and becomes caught up in a perilous personal conspiracy.

Ulajh's premiere on August 2, 2024, divided critics. With a global total of just ₹11 crore, the film was a complete financial disaster.

Gulshan Devaiah's thoughts on audience preferences and theatrical appeal

Devaiah spoke at length during an interaction with Bollywood Hungama about Ulajh's reception. The actor shared that he often asks himself what draws audiences to the theatre. Seeing the original Deadpool in cinemas was so entertaining that he went to see Deadpool & Wolverine. Each project has its own unique element that captivates people. Consider the anticipation surrounding the release of a film starring Salman Khan, Rajkummar Rao, Alia Bhatt, etc. One can count on them for certain things, but some of their films fail to wow.

Devaiah went on to say that it is conceivable that Ulajh failed to wow audiences if he has particular preferences when it comes to attending the movies. For whatever reason, maybe they were unimpressed by the trailer, and no one can say for sure. Sometimes their best efforts fall short of expectations, and the blame does not lie with the viewers.

The choice to see a movie at home is always an option, and competition has heated up, according to the actor. However, he has stated his opposition to the idea that some films are only appropriate for streaming services. In his opinion, this is a positive development because the film industry is going through a period of change. 

Devaiah added that any type of film may be successful under the right conditions, and that the only way to deal with this competition is to embrace it. According to him, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has worked with A-list actors, but his collaboration with Vikrant Massey was his most commercially successful.
