Ugram and Ramabanam were two films that had to click at any cost as the main leads, Allari Naresh and Gopichand needed a big hit under their belt. Ugram was directed by Vijay Kanakamedala who last directed Allari Naresh in Naandhi, a good hit at the box office. In the same way, Gopichand also teamed up with Sriwass for Ramabanam after giving two back-to-back hits with him in the past.
From day one itself, Ramabanam opened to very bad talk. The film saw some good occupancy in the mass belts of the Telugu states but as the word of mouth spread, the occupancy came down crashing in no time. The film has completed its first weekend and has made dismal numbers. The stage is such that Gopichand starrer has been removed from several screens already and the makers will see heavy losses.
On the other hand, Ugram had a passable kind of talk but the film crashed in no time in the mass belts. The occupancy was decent only during the evening and night shows in multiplexes. The film showed some meat and made over two crores. But to stay in the safe zone, Ugram needs to make close to five crores which looks doubtful now.
The makers also did not indulge in any post-release promotions and that is also one reason these films have failed to take off. The slow narration and lack of a strong screenplay have spoiled the outcomes of these films. Gopichand is being trolled for doing the same old action films. Fans want him to try films in different genres and even play character roles. Will he do that only time will tell.
