Paappan, a crime drama that has Suresh Gopi, Neeta Pillai, Asha Sharath, Nyla Usha, Kaniha, Gokul Suresh and G Chandunadh in pivotal roles, has completed two years of its release. The film, which is scripted by RJ Shaan, is directed by Malayalam’s hitmaker Joshiy. Both critics and viewers responded favourably to the movie after its digital and theatre premieres.
In the movie, Suresh Gopi portrayed Abraham Mathan Mathew, a former police officer who is called in to advise on a case his daughter is looking into after detectives find similarities between the pattern of several killings and that of a serial killer. This gives the ex-cop a chance for atonement while also exposing old wounds for him. Paappan is streaming on ZEE5 as well as OTTplay Premium.

The film brought in a staggering Rs 50 crore worldwide since its release, demonstrating that even after the actor took a long break from the industry to concentrate on his political career, Suresh Gopi's films still have its own sparkle.
The actor is known for his powerful characters in crime-thriller and cop-drama roles over the years, and Paappan gave viewers a glimpse of the Malayalam star in an older-style role. The actor plays the part with maturity, adding intensity only when needed. Overall, Joshiy and Suresh Gopi's return to form with Paappan was much-needed for the Malayali audience.
Instead of "mass" scenes or allusions to earlier blockbusters of Suresh Gopi, the narrative revolves around a father and a former police officer, among other characters, searching for forgiveness and closure. The screenplay by RJ Shaan is a stand out factor in Paappan. Multiple stories from the past and present of the film's protagonist have been skilfully woven in by him, who has also skilfully connected them to the investigation and subplots. The three hours of the crime drama are filled with enough twists to keep you engaged.
