Darshan Thoogudeepa was not a star right from the word go. The actor had his share of struggles, doing minor roles in films since 1997. Then, in 2002, PN Satya wrote and directed an action-crime thriller called Majestic and cast Darshan in the lead, along with Sparsha Rekha. The rest, as they say, was history.
Majestic turned out to be the turning point Darshan was waiting for, clocking a 100-day run at the box office and putting the actor on the path to superstardom. The film, which had music by actor-composer Sadhu Kokila, was about Daasa, an orphan raised by a crooked cop, who goes on to become a gangster. How his life changes when he meets and falls in love with Kiran (Rekha), an enemy’s daughter forms the crux of the story. The film was remade in Telugu as Charminar.
Darshan, who then, over the years went on to become Kannada cinema’s Challenging Star with a host of massive hit films, took to social media to thank his fans and everyone who stood by him in these two decades. Along with a poster of Majestic, Darshan wrote, “It's been #20YearsForMajestic Today. Thanks to all for all the love and support showered to me over these 2 decades. It's been an awesome journey. Wholehearted Thanks to Director, Producer and whole #Majestic team for such a good Platform for establishing a foothold in KFI.”
In no time, the hashtag 20yearsforMajestic, went viral, with some tweets calling for Majestic to be re-released in theatres soon.
