Ben Affleck's acting was propelled to a new height when he was cast to play Batman in the DC Extended Universe. His first outing as The Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice fetched incredible box office results, thus quashing all the prior doubts about Affleck being a credible replacement of Christain Bale. He would go on to reprise his role as Batman twice over in the Justice League films with another iteration slated to take place in the 2023 film The Flash.
Interestingly, the 2016 film Dawn of Justice sees him facing off with the other top luminary of the DC Universe but did you know that Ben Affleck has himself portrayed Superman about a decade before? Yes, Affleck played yesteryear actor George Reeves in the 2006 noir Hollywoodland, a biographical murder mystery directed Allen Coulter. George Reeves, for the unversed, is best known for playing Superman in the hit 1952-58 American TV show Adventures of Superman and Ben Affleck starred as Reeves in the semi-fictional take titled Hollywoodland, also starring Adrien Brody, Diane Lane, Bob Hoskins, Robin Tunney, and others.
Hollywoodland explores the controversial death of George Reeves who was found dead from a gunshot in his bedroom in 1959. While the death was declared a suicide, many believed that he was either killed or was a victim of an accidental shooting. Ben Affleck's portrayal of the final years of Reeves saw him don the Superman cape in the film and also fetched him his maiden Golden Globe nomination in the acting categories. By virtue of this role, Ben Affleck is currently the only actor in history to play both Batman and Superman on the silver screen.
He also has two Academy Awards to his name - one for the Best Screenplay for Good Will Hunting (shared with Matt Damon) and the other in the Best Picture Category for the 2012 film Argo (shared with Grant Heslov and George Clooney) which he also directed and starred in.
