Triptii Dimri became a star after her performance as Zoy a in Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. But she faced a lot of struggle and disappointment after her Imtiaz Ali directorial Laila Majnu fared badly at the box office. In an interview to ETimes, Triptii revealed her expectations and people’s reaction to Laila Majnu, how she coped with the stressful period and more.
Speaking to ETimes, Tripti recalled how during Laila Majnu’s release, she was buying vegetables and dreamt of being unrecognised after the movie’s huge success soon after. However, all those dreams came crashing down after Triptii’s film didn’t live up to her own expectations too. “When the film was released, very few people went to see it and I was literally heartbroken,” she said. She was still offered more films after that, though nothing exciting came her way. “So, I began working on my craft and attended many workshops. They kept me sane and then Bulbbul happened,” she continued.

Reflecting on how she used to audition for multiple projects, Triptii said that it was around that time that Bulbbul director Anvita Dutt Guptan called her for a life-altering role. Nonetheless, many people advised her against doing an OTT film when she was already working for theatrical releases. Sharing more, Tripti said, “Netflix had done just 8 films from India, and this was one of them, so that was a risk. And a lot of people were like, suddenly from theatres to OTT, why are you doing this? I said, I will do this film no matter what. I love the story. I love the character. And I will do it no matter what happens. It can tank. It can do well. I'm not thinking about all those things. I just want to experience this. And it was this movie that changed everything for me.”
