Ruben Östlund's Triangle of Sadness took everyone by surprise with its bizarre world twisted with a dark comedy. Woody Harrelson, Charlbi Dean in her final performance, Dolly de Leon, Zlatko Burić, Henrik Dorsin, Vicki Berlin, and Harris Dickinson all make appearances in the film. The movie follows a famous couple as they entertain wealthy guests on a cruise. Now, after a successful run in theatres and leaving an impressive mark at the film festival, Triangle of Sadness is set for its OTT premiere. Yes, the film will be out on May 12, 2023, on SonyLIV and also on OTTplay Premium.
Talking elaboratively about the premise, Ruben Östlund's Palme d'Or-winning dark comedy inverts social order to expose the sleazy connection between fame and influence. Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), a famous modelling couple, are invited to join a cruise for the ultra-wealthy led by a mentally unstable captain (Woody Harrelson). What started off as an Instagrammable experience ends in tragedy, trapping the remaining characters on a barren island where they must fight for their lives.
On May 21, 2022, the global premiere of Triangle of Sadness took place at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it was met with an eight-minute standing ovation and ultimately won the Palme d'Or. The film was well-received by critics, and de Leon's performance was so well-received that she was nominated for both the Golden Globe and the BAFTA for the first time for her supporting role.
It was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay at the 95th Academy Awards, and it won four European Film Awards, including the Best Film prize.
In India, Triangle of Sadness hit the big screens in March this year, around the same time as the Oscars 2023. Impact Films released the film here.
