Toxic Birthday Peek: Director Geetu Mohandas called out for objectification of women in glimpse from Yash's film

Filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, who, not long ago, had joined actress Parvathy Thiruvoth to call out the Nithin Renji Panicker-directed Kasaba, featuring Mammootty, in which the Malayalam superstar had a fair share of misogynistic lines. Geetu opined that such films and dialogues ought not to be celebrated and that they are not a mark of progress, urging for such content to be done with. The male gaze and objectification of women were part of the panel discussion that Geetu and Parvathy spoke at, so, it was no surprise that the former got a share of her own medicine earlier today.

On the occasion of actor Yash’s birthday, whose next, Toxic, is being directed by Geetu, the film team released a sneak peek, featuring the Kannada superstar sauntering into a club/casino, amid several scantily-clad club performers. Other men are seen getting handsy with these women, and Yash too joins in, pulling one close and seductively pouring a drink down her face.

Taking to social media, Nithin called out Geetu’s hypocrisy; how she conveniently forgot what she opposed not long ago while making a film across the border. Nitin’s post about Geetu changing her interpretation of misogyny has found support on social media. Interestingly, even hardcore Yash fans have been voicing their displeasure about the Birthday Peek, which, they reckon, looks like an ad for an alcohol/condom/perfume brand.

A couple of months ago, images from the set of Toxic had been leaked, from what appears to be segments of the sequence the sneak peek is from. Since that look had been revealed, the makers chose this particular segment to appease fans, who’d been urging them for an update for a while. However, now that it is out, it is said that the announcement teaser was a lot better than this one.

Yash’s Toxic to not meet its April 10, 2025 release date? 

Produced by KVN Productions, Toxic was meant to be an April 10, 2025 release, but it went on floors much later than expected, so it is unlikely to stick to this schedule. A late 2025 release is still on the anvil, it has been reported.
